The staff kindly upgraded us due to the length of our stay. However, the steps of stairway inside the room, to the main bedroom, were uneven. Both my husband and I fell down the last few stairs. Fortunately nothing is broken. We didn't report it because we didn't want a fuss. I mention it here as a warning to older people and those of reduced mobility.

Located in the Provence of France, the charming city of Arles is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List thanks to its stunning Roman monuments and rich history. This beautiful destination was once a great inspiration for important personalities through time, including the Emperor Constantine I and Vincent van Gogh.
Home to the Roman baths of Constantine, the necropolis of Alyscamps and the Church of St. Trophime, Arles is a perfect example of a city perfectly combining the ancient with the modern. Built about 2,000 years ago, the Roman Arena (Arles Amphitheatre) is an imposing landmark, hosting bullfights during the festival of Feria d’Arles.

Arles was an accidental surprise! We went for a specific reason and stayed for pure enjoyment. The old town is very walkable and both historic and cute French, the Saturday market is ENORMOUS, LUMA was an unexpected joy (4 hours and we could go back), Van Gogh Foundation was great and I'm sure there is more to explore. We'll be back!

For me, Arles is one of the most interesting places to visit in France. With its 1st century Roman ruins, Van Gogh's history there as illustrated through many of his paintings, and the beautiful Carmargue horses and delta environment, there were so many wonderful things to do and explore. The highlight of my trip was at the Domaine de Mejanes restaurant where we magically enjoyed the music of two nephews from the internationally renowned band Gipsy Kings! As it turns out they are from Arles and the family performs often at restaurants in the area. We cant wait to return! One note - if you ride the horses in the Camargue area be sure to bring lots of mosquito repellant as the waterways are a natural environment for them.

It doesn’t get so many tourists but tourist traps abound. But if you look selectively for a good restaurant you will find several and we had four outstanding dinners. It’s small but cozy and clean with lots of cute squares for tea or a drink. Several good museums and roman monuments. Four days is not too long.

The Easter feria is a good time to visit Arles, although food and service can be as low as 'poor'. Plenty of culture from Roman ruins to street bands. Excellent and elegant Museum of Arles. Wonderful street market on Saturdays with high quality goods. Shops, ranging from very high end local produce and clothing, to convenience stores, most open all (public holiday) weekend.

Walking distance to most of the hot spots.
Walking distance to most of the hot spots. Very convenient tourist pass allowing access to most of the attractions. Good food and nice people. Good for families (we travelled with two kids). Highly recommended for a few-day stay.
Le Calendal is perfectly located in the charming, ancient part of Arles, across from two major Roman ruins and in close walking distance to Luma Art Foundation, the Fondation Van Gogh and other museums as well as lovely boutiques and cafes. The hotel is spare in room furniture, and the rooms are small. But the bathrooms are spotless, the a/c excellent, and the bedding comfortable. We especially liked the interior courtyard and front cafes for drinks and meals.
Beautiful little hotel in the countryside of Provence. The staff was super friendly. The room with porch overlooking the garden, was comfortable and clean. The breakfast was amazing! The hotel has a bar for drinks. You can easily walk 30-40 minutes into the beautiful historical town Arles. The walk is really beautiful. There are three restaurants, a pizzeria, a small store, a bakery in Fourques, for lunch or dinner. And just outside the hotel is a pizza truck.
Comfortable and clean hotel in excellent location in the centre of Arles close to restaurants shops and main sights. Everything very walkable.
Gaultier on reception was very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our stay.
The room was a decent size and although the bathroom was quite small, we did however have the advantage of having a bath and shower (room 14) which was useful for easing our muscles after long days of sight seeing.
Highly recommend.
The Hotel is on a nice little square right in the center of Arles, a two minute walk away from the Amphitheatre. Perfect to explore the city. The staff is exceptionally welcoming and helpful! There is a place to store your bike. The breakfast is good! Croissant, baguette, fromage, yoghurt, fresh fruit, everything you need. You can eat inside or outside on the terrace. Very nice! If I ever come to Arles again, I would always come back here!
Excellent hotel with warm, friendly and accommodating staff who were able to help with all of our needs throughout our stay! We had a room with an incredible view of the amphitheatre which really topped off our stay. Coffees were great and the small touches like refillable water bottles were very much appreciated. Definitely check out the spa whilst you’re there!
Location is also perfect for all the sights that Arles has to offer!
We had a lovely stay at Maison de charme d’Arles. The location is excellent in the centre of the city close to all the historical sites, museums and restaurants. Francois was a charming host who provided a delicious breakfast, excellent coffee and engaging conversation. We highly recommend this property.
The apartment is in the center of Arles, close to all the beautiful monuments.
It was very clean, with the perfect size and equipped with everything.
The kitchen is fully equipped for those who want to cook at home.
The bedroom had plenty of space in the closet for all our luggage.
Very pleasant and calm, the hotel is located at 5km from Arles in a very large property that allows nice walks to discover several ponds, sculptures and extraordinary trees. The hotel is decorated with taste, keeping the South of France colours. Nice pool.
Conveniently located, yet quiet. Easy base from which to walk around Arles. Didn’t initially intend to have a car, so didn’t book a parking space, but they found a way to accommodate us, and even let us have extra time to walk around before leaving town.
This hotel gives a great first impression with it beautiful decor. I felt like i was walking through a movie set from the early 20th century. The woman at reception was very nice, she a also made a good first impression. The room and bed were comfortable
The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel was immaculate and had a typically French charm - not flashy but really welcoming and cozy. Fabulous Rhône views, you are right on it and Arles Centre is literally around the corner. Great spot!
Beautiful surroundings in Arles by the centre but in a quiet position. Lovely clean airy hotel room with a great bathroom. Fab breakfast by a great host. We loved it.
Good hotel to stay when visiting Arles by car. It offers free parking on their terrain. Arles is at walking distance, but you can also take your car to the center.
Very well located, in the center of the beautiful neighborhood of ancient Arles, close to restaurants, bars, and more...
