Love Southern California; I stayed in Coronado, preferring the quieter atmosphere, yet still easy to get to downtown San Diego via the ferry or public transit (which is great - get a day or multi-day pass - great value). Favourite day was cycling the Bayshore Bikeway - great loop ride - rented cycles from Bikes & Beyond at the Ferry Landing in Coronado (only three blocks from where we stayed). Went to a San Diego Padres game (they won!); lots of people, fun atmosphere - they sure like their baseball down there!! Visited Old Town; was okay - a bit too touristy for me, but did have a great lunch at a Mexican Restaurant nearby. Rented bikes a second time (from the same place) and cycled the Silver Strand to Imperial Beach and back; great day for a ride - not too hot - but the headwind coming back was a bit challenging. Will definitely return - would like to go to Point Loma (was planning on going, but ran out of time) and Mission Beach. Was here for a week, could easily stay longer (might do a long term rental when I retire!)
Santa Barbara is a beautiful place and a great stop if you are travelling around in California. It is a fairly small place so if you like going out and be active, I would recommend to spend only a few days at Santa Barbara. The beach and the pier were my favourite spots. If you like walking on the beach, you can walk down all the way to Butterfly Beach.
Sán Diego is my hometown. Went there for family event. After San Francisco, San Diego is a nice California city. Great climate. Nice museums in Balboa Park. Great food at the harbor. Freeways are a delight. One can get all over the Metropolitan area in half hour or so.
Beautiful place. Well set up for walking, running, or cycling along the coastal path. Lots of interesting information about Cannery Row and surrounds. Lots of wildlife about - otters, seals, birds. My favourite place in a 2-week California roadtrip. We hired kayaks from Adventures By The Sea on Cannery Row and thought the service was excellent.
Pismo Beach is a bit touristy for my taste, but it's a quaint, fun, seaside town with loads to do and plenty of choice for food and drinks. The beach itself is clean with beautiful central California coastline.
There is actually very little to do there in the city. We did universal studios which was great we Went to Hollywood which is a must do to see it but it is very dirty there. Disneyland and California adventure park we’re both overrated and overpriced and we spent the whole day in lines but besides that the thing that really saddens you is the amount of homelessness and the dirtyness of the streets around la. I felt horrible every time I walked through the city.. surely more can be done for those people.
Great for natural spring spas! Restaurants in the town quite lacking with one exception, Calistoga Inn. However, 5 minutes away is some of California's best restaurants, Saint Helena.
Its a beautiful place with lots of beaches to choose from, but they also have one of the only black sand beaches in California. Its amazing. Never seen one before, honestly didnt know that there was one anywhere but Hawaii. Its a must see. There are hotels right on the beach, and rooms with the most amazing views. I saw a school of dolphins from my hotel window, was the first time I had ever seen them in the wild, and there were soooo many. Seemed like a hundred. Always find cool shells along the beach as well
It was part of a business trip to California and completed it on my way back home. The best part is the opportunity to watch the Warriors on Game 5 of the playoff with the Pelicans at the Oracle Arena.
The city is nice, people are very welcoming. You can get easily anywhere by transport, there are no distances. It can be very windy and foggy, much colder than other parts of California
we stayed here is MAY - NON football season. Perfect place to stay to go to California Great America depending on the time of year. You can walk across the parking lot to get to the park entrance. I imagine during football season it is PURE CHAOS here because of the parking situation but if you are there for the game this is the perfect place to stay, the hotel is RIGHT beside the stadium and the amusement park which would be super convenient. The general area was a very safe place to stay as well. Hotel was clean and the staff was very nice
This hotel is so beautiful. And the services accompany in the same way. Bed was supercomfortable. Bathroom was split and the level of cleanliness and details in the towels and toiletries were superb. Breakfast included was so varied that made for our meal that day. The room temperature was so adequate, not too cold, not too hot, even if that was the hottest day of the year in California. And very silent. Felt we were alone in the hotel. And the price was a steal to be honest. Would happily have paid the double for the service provided.
Hotel in general good, but price too high and No bottle of water in the room!!!! It’s unbelievable! I paid $308 for 20 hours stay and NO ONE BOTTLES OF WATERin room !!! California, San Diego, pretty hot weather 🥵 “you can buy bottle of the water in the lobby” … but it’s so easy for good reputation, when you are worried about your customers, Hilton… Don't be embarrassed and leave some water in the rooms!!!! And it’s pretty Weird - so big and modern hotel and no one electric charging in the parking? Really? 🤦♀️🥵🤦♀️
Hotel Playa Carmel is quintessential California quaint. As we stroll through the town and down to the beach it was obvious there was nowhere else we want to stay in Carmel. The staff was excellent always happy and ready to assist. From beautiful breakfast buffets, coffee/tea service early each am (for east coasters!) to excellent cappuccinos upon request-All included in the hotel cost. Although everything in town is walkable the hotel offers a shuttle service at night for when you want to dress up/drink.
The location is perfect for walking around and visiting the Anaheim Garden Walk (would recommend for shopping and restaurants, and it is quite lively at night). The staff were so lovely, always polite and having fun with us! The room was plenty big enough and had a perfect setup with a small kitchenette. There is an ART bus stop directly outside the hotel, so perfect for getting to and from Disneyland/California Adventure - Easy Peasy (and Lyft drivers will pull up right outside the door if you prefer)!
We booked the hotel last minute as we were not sure where we would be on our California road trip! This hotel was a great find, I read the excellent reviews and thought will book and we were not disappointed! The rooms were accessible from the carpark, cosy, homely and they thought of everything. Nice coffee, little complimentary touches, makeup station, comfortable bed, fridge, popcorn for film watching! Hotel is so convenient to Pismo beach and getting back on the road. Well done, a great stay!
The location can't be beat for staying off Disney. Just feet from the park you will not need any type of transportation to get to both Disneyland and California Adventure! Although the rates were higher than some other good neighbor hotels we still saved about $200 a night compared to the Disneyland Hotel, all while being very close to the park! We stayed in a King room that was updated and very clean. Check out is at NOON! Very convenient when you need that extra rest before you leave!
My wife and I have stayed here numerous times as we travel up the coast to California. Due to COVID-19 and lack of tourism in San Luis Obispo The former owners close the hotel and restaurant. The former owners of the Hotel recently sold it to a new operator, who consequently is just getting started with re-opening the facility. Refurbishment and enhancement are underway. Don’t let that discourage you from stopping at this amazing hotel.
Great location, just a 5 min walk across the road to the harbour and beach, with great views of the Queen Mary. Great restaurant on the harbour called Parkers Lighthouse. Cinema and clothes shopping even closer with another 2 restaurant's ,California Pizza Kitchen the other one was called something Island. About a 45 min drive to Universal Studios and a 30 min drive to Santa Monica. Great location
The room was sooo comfortable and tidy. The staff were amazing. We arrived late for check in due to a delayed flight and nothing was too much trouble. Plenty of parking. The shower is the best in the USA I’ve been travelling for the month throughout California all the way to New York and the shower here has been the best so far! Nothing I’ve experienced in the United States compares.
Groveland
beautiful place with an amazing games room that all the family loved! everything in there was free for a change! it was great fun, all areas of this place are really lovely, we went on a beautiful evening walk straight from our apartment, and the hot tub and s’mores kits were the icing on the cake! by far our favourite place by far on our 3 week California road trip :)
Clean and organized. Everyone friendly and efficient we go to Disney a lot and iv been trying all hotels it’s been 6 hotels near Disney that have been not so great I was starting to think maybe after pandemic service standards changed however this hotel was actually as comfortable and accommodating as the grand California hotel! And breakfast was included !!!
Everything was great, I travel to this hotel a lot. It's my favourite hotel in California. At least a few times a year I come to stay for a mini escape - alone or with friends, It's always nice and relaxing. Dog friendly and it helped me to travel there with my dog - so many other awesome pet owners there, such a great place for a truly relaxing time.
Breakfast was basic but sufficient. Location was along a busy road so this could be better. Overall the layout of the hotel, the reception and complementary items were above expectation. On our 16 days trip we stayed at 9 different hotels across California and Nevada. Mostly 4 and 5 stars, but Hotel California was the best by far.
I loved meeting the owner and the history behind this hotel. From the GM Katrina to all her dedicated staff members including Marcos, Sylvia, Jackie, along with the housekeeping staff, my stay was the best it could be. Thank you so much for making it special as I re entered California from Florida. I do appreciate all of you. TammyJo
12 minutes walk to downtown Disney and another 10 minutes walk through downtown Disney and you will get to the main entrance of both Disneyland and California Adventure. It’s only a 5 minutes walk from the Disney Pixar Place Hotel so you are in great proximity! Breakfast had some rotation and tasted good!
Recommend this hotel seriously. The stay was perfect, the breakfast was great, staff were friendly, and the location was peaceful. This will be my forever hotel when I come back to California again. I hope nothing change about this hotel and that the stay keeps getting better.
Spotlessly clean, beautifully maintained. A quick, pleasant walk to the fun Funk Zone and the beach. We drove but could easily have taken the train -- also close to the train station. Not as glamorous as Hotel California but world's less expensive. Good price performer.
I Loved the welcome Drink, was delicious also loved the distance from the hotel to Disneyland/California adventures perfect less then 10min walk. also loved the little Disney pops around the hotel lobby n floors.pool was warm enough to dip n in the night
Host TJ was great, super friendly and helpful. Hotel location was good, an easy walk from both the boardwalk and pier and downtown area. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. Santa Cruz is a cool town and made a perfect stop off on our California road trip!
